After a long season watching and learning with the Shockwave team, it’s now my time to get back into the seat. I had previously planned to be in the seat of the Shockwave Funny Car for the 2016 season, this unfortunately didn’t fall into place as my final year at University became priority. I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Graphic Design and Communication, so the decision paid off. I am however, really excited to be back in the driver seat this weekend at Santa Pod Raceway to complete my licence and become competition-ready!
Although I have spent the season off the scene as a driver, I have been very busy doing other fun things like travelling around the country seeking sponsorship, as well as building up Jayne Kay Motorsport Ltd into a growing marketing and promotions company. With the help of the Enterprise Team at the University of Huddersfield for young entrepreneurs, I have been able to fulfil my dream of developing a business within the motorsport I love.
During the weekend of the Jap Show Finale, I hope to complete my remaining passes to become a fully licensed Nitro Funny Car Pilot. So far, my quickest time on track is a 4.60 @ 223mph which was during my half-track pass - which I am hoping to annihilate. With the help and guidance from the Shockwave Racing Team, I have no doubt I will be able to achieve this.
As always, I’d like to thank my sponsors for helping me get to this point. Wheel Whores, Fuel Clothing, Wrap Kings, Custom Coach Trimming, Peter Walters Race Design, Trophy Queen, RW Paint, SimpsonLids and in addition, Santa Pod Raceway for their support this year. I’d also like to thank in advance all of the team at Shockwave Racing for their hard work and encouragement towards my funny car venture, they are the hardest working crew I know and have had a really tough season but still manage to stay positive! And a final special thanks to my Dad for his endless support and shared passion to go Nitro Funny Car Racing!!
