I am overwhelmed to be able to say that I will be licencing in the Shockwave Nitro Funny Car at Santa Pod Raceway over the 15/16th August weekend. It doesn’t quite feel real yet. This has been my ultimate goal since racing in the Junior Dragster class, and the chance has come a lot sooner than I imagined! Dad gave me the best opportunity to learn how to drive a Funny Car when he purchased the ex Frank Manzo TMFC chassis from Dan Larsen in 2009. We raced in Super Pro for a couple of years to gain experience with a plan of stepping into TMFC. However when the Pink Lady Funny Car was sold, we decided to have a go at racing a blown altered, which we have really been enjoying this year!
Lots of things have been happening this season, we have had new sponsors join the team, we have qualified high in the tough Super Pro class in a front engine blown car again, and we have been planning our step up into the Fuel Funny Car ranks. Dave approached me before the announcement of Gordon’s retirement as a potential new driver for the team and we have been working hard to get to this stage since then. I’ve been spending time with Dave, Gordon and all of the Shockwave team at the track and in the workshop, and I am really grateful to them for giving me my first taste of nitro during a warm up in the Shockwave Fuel funny Car over the Main Event weekend!
I want to say a massive thank you to the fantastic Shockwave Racing Crew, who have worked so hard to get the car turned around so that I can licence and a huge thanks to Gordon and Dave for putting their faith in me as a driver.
I’d also like to say a big thank you to Wheel Whores, who have been with me since 2011. I am so happy that they will be continuing their support throughout our Fuel Funny Car Racing. Also thanks to Trophy Queen, WrapKings, RW Custom Paint, Custom Coach Trimming, SimpsonLids and Peter Walters Race Design for their continued support.
