FIA Main Event Coverage

We kicked off the weekend at 5am on Wednesday when we made our way down to Santa Pod Raceway to set up our pit before testing. We had a good head start on Thursday on what to expect from the car over the rest of the weekend. This was only our second time out on track with the Altered so we are really happy with the progress we made during testing. We made 3 full passes which were a lot slower than we were running with the Funny Car however it still felt quick!

Over the weekend during qualifying we managed to get running consistent 8.9’s to begin with, however once we made some minor changes we got it running a little quicker to 8.5’s. After Friday’s qualifying sessions we had a problem with the gearbox, on track I couldn’t get reverse or forward gear, it locked up after the the burnout, so it was a long night in the pits with the gearbox out, thanks to Dad and Peter Snow for their hard work getting it ready for the next day!

We were really pleased with the performance of the car over the 5 Qualifying sessions we made. During Q7 we managed to get to No.1 spot by running an 8.52 on an 8.52 dial in. That moved us up from No.31 to No.6 so after this we decided not to push the car any more to go faster and try and keep the car consistent to get through eliminations.

By the end of the weekend our quickest pass was an 8.45 @ 152mph, we are happy with the progress as it is a totally new set up to the Funny Car. We are not going to rush and push parts yet. Our next event will be the Nostalgia Nationals where we would run with the Supercharged Outlaws at Shakespeare County Raceway. We are hoping to continue tuning the car to go quicker while we are there.

A big thanks to our sponsors: Wheel Whores, Trophy Queen, RW Custom Paint, Wrap Kings, Peter Walters Race Design, Simpson Lids and Custom Coach Trimming. And also a big thanks to all our fans and supporters who came to see us over the weekend! We almost had another sell out on T-Shirts over the weekend, we have only a few Medium and Large left, so if you want one do check out our online store!
